Man sues President Buhari for N50bn in damages over arrest of judges

A lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has sued Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari over the arrest of seven Supreme Court judges by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday 6 October 2016.

In the lawsuit named FHC/ABJ/CS/809/16, Ogungbeje listed defenders as follows: President Buhari, the DSS and its Director-General, Lawal Daura, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the National Judicial Council (NJC).

The applicant prayed the court in his submission to order the defendants pay the sum of 50 billion naira in damages for defaulting the sections 33, 34, 35, 36, and 41 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.
