Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have definitely sold themselves, following an epic week of press conferences around the world.
But, some news has come in that isn’t giving the UFC star much of a case to actually win come Aug. 26th.
Apparently, McGregor’s training isn’t going well, as boxer Jessie Vargas reveals a rumor that Conor got knocked out by a sparring partner. Vargas wasn’t actually there for this rumored knockout, but he mentions Brandon Rios, who got annihilated by Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
“This guy got knocked out in sparring already,” Vargas claims, via an interview with Villainfy. “The boxing world is small. It’s a small circle. I heard they tried Brandon Rios, but Brandon Rios knocked him out.”
This comes a month after a video surfaced of McGregor being schooled in a sparring session with South African boxer Chris van Heerden… who also made the claim that Mayweather will easily defeat the UFC star.
“I read all these posts where people say Mayweather’s gonna have his hands full landing on Conor because of Conor’s skill and footwork and movement. I’m no Mayweather and — out of camp, out of shape — I landed [punches] on Conor McGregor at will,” van Heerden said.
McGregor has promised that he will knock out Mayweather “inside four rounds”. This news doesn’t make much of a case for McGregor… if true.
