Lil Wayne fans have been awaiting the release of Tha Carter V for years now. It was believed that Cash Money Records was holding things, but Weezy says its all up to him.
In a recent interview with Q93, the rapper addressed the status of the long-delayed project.
“Of course you’re going to see Tha Carter V. I just don’t want to put it out the wrong way,” Wayne said. “Honestly, I can do what I want at any time. The fans deserve it to be right and that’s how it’s gonna be. I’ma make sure it’s right. I can drop whatever I want to drop. That’s why I keep dropping whatever I want to drop. But I’m not gonna give them Carter V.”
Weezy’s statements come as he remains locked in a legal battle with Cash Money and it founder Birdman. He’s suing the label for $ 51 million, demanding he is paid before he releases Tha Carter V.
During the interview, the rapper also revealed that the album is done and ready to go… when he’s ready to drop it. Carter V is done, Wayne said. “It’s on the shelf, just ready to drop… Carter V is ready to be listened to. It’s just gotta be listened to the right way and like I said, I’m not gonna give it to them wrong.
Aside from the Carter project, Wayne is set to kick off his third annual Lil Weezyana Fest, taking place in New Orleans on Aug. 25. Wayne will co-headline alongside Gucci Mane.
